Satisfaction

I thought I would get back to writing out poetry like the way I used to. It can be creatively refreshing, but keep in mind it's just for fun. I wish I got to log all of the old "lyrics" I used to write because some of them were really beautiful.

You can’t break a heart that’s not there
And I’m afraid you can’t use one.
Life may be easier without compassion,
Any sympathy or despair,
But regrets cannot be undone,
And I promise, there’ll be no satisfaction.

I question every moment that I breathe
But you have no answers, no thoughts, no need.
You don’t regret what you’ve never considered,
But in your mind you’ve never considered a thing.
Make it through, make it out, and make it end…
But what happened to living in the now?
Why can’t you see happiness is the how?

You’ve left any faith behind,
Afraid of all that’s been unkind,
Please my dear, please don’t go blind.
I know you’re capable of affection,
But there are hurts you can’t deny.
If you always look in the wrong direction,
Why don’t you try looking to the sky?

So many questions, so little answers
The problems all began with how you changed.
Why don’t you try staying before your heals have already turned?
Stay a little longer and feel a little deeper.
Why won’t you hold on instead of letting go?
There’s strength in forgiveness and hope in repentance.

My Ultimate Alternative Rock Mix

I tried to limit myself to two songs maximum per artist, and let me tell you it was quite difficult for some of them (shout out to Imogen Heap, OneRepublic, Panic!, Paramore, and Safetysuit.) And as much as I love myself some Maroon 5 and The Fray, they are a little too pop for this particular playlist. I also eliminated some Safetysuit favorites to keep on point with the genre (I cringed.) What I love about this genre is that some of these songs have a way of hitting your emotions in a weird way that feels just right. The lyrics can be abstract and absurdly honest accompanied with their offbeat melodies and dramatic preludes. Let me just say that I was originally only going to make a top 20, but there are so many songs that I couldn't let go of and had to make a rejects list. And then the two song rule just killed me. As you can see, I'm a music lover with a sympathy for great songs.

My Top 25:

  1. Congratulations - Blue October
  2. Sparks - Coldplay
  3. I'm Like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off - Fall Out Boy
